We are all aware that the sun can damage your skin and so we therefore take the appropriate precautions but did you know it can also damage your hair follicles too?
Hair no matter how healthy it is will always fall out in-fact our scalp sheds about 100 hairs a day. These lost hairs will break at the base off the scalp leaving the follicle exposed, until it eventually starts to grow again.
This is where the sun does it's part. If those exposed follicles have nothing shading them from the sun the scalp will burn and actually seal up the follicle thus preventing any hairs from sprouting out of them again. Those who are most at risk of this are people with receding hair lines, thinning hair and very short hair.
Though shaving your head in the summer may seem like an appropriate option to keep your head cool it may actually be damaging to your scalp at the same time so perhaps leaving your locks longer may not be such a bad idea. If you are one of the above who are in most danger of follicle sealing the solution is simple. Wear a hat. The same precaution should probably be taken if you work with power tools that create a lot of sparks which too can be damaging to your follicles.

Lolz I should be alright, I've got a nice big rugg on my head. It is tempting not to cut it in the warmer months though because my head itches sooo much.
